Aims of Module | |||

To provide students with the opportunity to undertake a piece of supervised, independent in-depth research into a specific area and to apply the full range of associated research skills required to produce a dissertation. |
Learning Outcomes for Module | |

On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to: | |
1 | Critically review a body of literature integral to a research project. |
2 | Produce a detailed and justified account of the methods employed for a research project. |
3 | Analyse and interpret data and present results appropriately. |
4 | Discuss the data obtained in relation to the research question, existing literature and current practice. |
5 | Produce a conclusion which evaluates relevant aspects of a research process and includes future recommendations. |
Indicative Module Content |
---|
Critical review of literature and managing the research process; review of common constraints of, and strategies for, working within the boundaries of sport and exercise science based research; ethics related to research; developing and piloting research methods; statistics and research design. |
Module Delivery |
---|
A small number of tutorials and lectures will be provided. In addition, each student will be allocated a project supervisor from whom he/she will receive support and relevant advice. The meetings will be initiated by the student and the supervisor will act as a facilitator. |

Prerequisites for Module | Successful completion of Stages 1-3 of either BSc (Hons) Applied Sport and Exercise Science course or Stage 3 of the BSc (Hons) Sport Coaching course, or equivalent. |

ADDITIONAL NOTES |
---|
Each individual student will be allocated 6 hours of supervision once they have reached the point at which they are able to commence data collection. Supervision will be provided up to this point as required usually in a group format. |
