Aims of Module | |||
---|---|---|---|
To provide students with the key anatomical knowledge of the musculoskeletal system necessary to conduct analysis of human movement. |
Learning Outcomes for Module | |
---|---|
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to: | |
1 | Identify the surface markings of the human skeleton and relate to underlying anatomy. |
2 | Describe and classify the joints of the human body and relate structure to function. |
3 | Identify the location and describe the action of the major muscles of the human body. |
4 | Analyse, at a basic level, the joint movements and muscle action of simple activities. |
Indicative Module Content |
---|
Bones of the axial and appendicular skeleton; body planes; directional terms and movements; anatomical landmarks; categories (fibrous, cartilaginous, synovial) and classifications (ball and socket, hinge, ellipsoid/condylar, saddle) of joints and the relationship between the structure and function of each; major muscles of the human body (their names, locations, orientations, origins, insertions and actions); basic movement analysis including joint movements, types of muscle contraction (concentric, eccentric and isometric) and muscles involved. |
