Indicative Module Content |

Major conceptual approaches to the supply chain will be examined relating to three main themes: supply chain policy; supply chain practice; block chain, and supply chain improvement. Strategic aspects of the integrated supply chain are investigated within a background of the growing internationalisation of business, with specific attention to the issues sorrounding sustainbility of supply chain design and practice. Lean and Agile Supply Chain strategies are reviewed and their suitability to different supply chain scenarios critically evaluated. Aspects of supply chain design such as postponement, de-coupling and the role of information are emphasised. In particular, the dilemma of measuring supply chain performance are examined related to the customer service and resource productivity objectives, with specific coverage of the tripple-bottom line philosophy addressing economic, environmental and social performance of the supply chain. Leading-edge concepts such as transformational logistics, process mapping, re-engineering the supply chain, e-business technology, reverse logistics and the strategic management of lead times shall be evaluated. Throughout the module the integrative benefits of the supply chain shall be emphasised with case examples studied from best practice organisations world-wide, relating these to themes of sustainability and globalisation. |
