Aims of Module | |||

To enable students to undertake a critical appraisal of an organisation's project operations using the models, theories and principles of Strategic Project Management and to understand the importance of strategy and governance to the successful delivery of projects. |
Learning Outcomes for Module | |

On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to: | |
1 | Explain the meaning of, and appraise the need for, strategy in projects and the relationship between strategy and project management. |
2 | Critically analyse the impact of governance on project strategy. |
3 | Critically appraise the key Strategic Project Management tools. |
4 | Establish the processes required to ensure the various elements of the project are coordinated with organisational strategy. |
Indicative Module Content |
---|
This module will provide an introduction to the meaning of strategy and its relationship with projects and successful Strategic Project Management. The module also reviews the role of a number of strategic project tools such as Portfolio Management, Programme Management, the Project Management Office, and Maturity Models. The importance of governance will be evaluated, particularly in relation to the management of projects. Ethics, CSR, Global working and Growth, Strategic Positioning, Innovation and Strategy, Strategic Development, Control and Evaluation of Strategy and Strategic thinking within projects will also be addressed. |
