Aims of Module
To enable students to undertake a critical appraisal of an organisation's project operations using the models theories and principles of Strategic Project Management and to understand the importance of strategy, leadership and governance to the successful delivery of projects.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Explain the meaning of, and appraise the need for, strategy in projects and relationship between strategy and project management.
2 Critically analyse the impact of leadership and governance on project strategy.
3 Critically appraise the key Strategic Project Management tools.
4 Establish the processes required to ensure the various elements of the project are coordinated with organisational strategy.

Indicative Module Content
This module will provide an introduction to the meaning of strategy and it's relationship with projects and Strategic Project Management. The module also reviews the role of a number of strategic project tools such as Portfolio Management, Programme Management, the Project Management Office, and Maturity Models. The importance of leadership and governance will be addressed particularly in terms of multicultural and geographically dispersed project teams.

Module Delivery
The module is delivered in Taught Mode by lectures, interactive group work, case study tutorials and directed self-study. The module is delivered in Distance Learning Mode by self directed web-based learning materials, on-line support.
