Aims of Module
To develop a critical understanding of the context and key components of health and safety management in the work place.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1	Critically discuss the factors which oblige organisations to manage health and safety.
2	Evaluate the various means by which organisations manage health and safety and the implications for all aspects of performance.
3	Critically discuss how compliance with health and safety obligations could help organisations contribute to the meaningful realisation of the United Nations' sustainable development goals (e.g. goals 3, 5, 6, 8, 10, and 11).
4	Communicate knowledge and understanding of key concepts both orally and in writing, and through the use of appropriate group involvement techniques to facilitate the learning of others.

Indicative Module Content
Health and safety law; health and safety management systems; hazard identification and risk management; accident causation, investigation & related costs; hazard identification and risk management; human factors(including people and their behaviours; occupational health; measuring health and safety performance.

Module Delivery
This module is a lecture based module with student-led seminars, directed self-study and private study. The learning will also be supplemented with guest speakers from a variety of industries. This will help develop a deeper understanding of the issues and the context of the importance of health and safety, current obligations on employers and employees, health and safety systems and required practices to manage health and safety effectively.

We have yet to agree the exact assessment method(s) to employ to prevent the use of AI, following the teaching team's evaluation of the December 2023 examination. Two suggested options are: 1) Invigilated Exam (100%); 2) Invigilated Exam (70%) and consider a new method for the remaining (30%) such as poster presentation. Please note the content of the description tab [i.e. Method(s) less vulnerable to the use of AI] within the Assessment Plan section is there only for info just now and will be updated accordingly following SAB's consideration of the two suggested assessment options.
