SPSS: Information and Troubleshooting
Browser/Client Support
The following Browser/Client combinations are required to run SPSS Version 15 via the Remote Apps (Citrix) Servers:
Internet Explorer v6+ - Requires latest MetaFrame Presentation Server Client (for 32-bit Windows) which can be found here:
Mozilla Firefox v2.0+ - Latest Java Runtime Environment which can be found here:
Chrome/Opera/Other - Not Supported/Tested
SPSS Version 17 Files Not Opening On Version 15
The current Version being used and supported by the University on local machines is Version 17 but via Remote Apps (Citrix) Version 15 will continue to be available.
Please Note: Any SPSS sheet created in version 17 cannot be guranteed to open in Version 15 as there are compatability issues. We recommend therefore only using one version of the software when working on SPSS sheets!
Error Accessing SPSS Via Remote Apps
When trying to access SPSS via Remote Applications the following error occurs:
"Error connecting through Citrix Secure Gateway"
To avoid receiving this error please follow the instructions below:
Select the Local Client to run SPSS from remoteapps.rgu.ac.uk. This can be done by clicking the Advanced Options before you login:
and selecting Local Client in the Client Type drop down box:
This should now allow you to run SPSS without the error appearing.
SPSS 17 for Your Personal Laptop/PC
The University Licence for SPSS allows students to install a copy of the software on their personal laptop/PC. To find out how to obtain a CD containing SPSS please contact your local School Technicians or the IT Helpdesk (01224 262777, ITHelpdesk@rgu.ac.uk)
Copy And Paste From SPSS Via Remote Apps
Some users have reported problems when copying and pasting from SPSS in Citrix to other applications such as Word. The following have been tested and can be confirmed:
Copying of Data in SPSS to a local (machine) copy of Microsoft Word/Excel/Powerpoint
Data can be copied directly from SPSS to a locally installed versions of the above (MS Office) software.
Copying of Charts in SPSS to a local (machine) copy of Microsoft Word/Excel/Powerpoint
Charts cannot be copied directly from SPSS to a locally installed versions of the above (MS Office) software. However alternate screen capture software can be used to complete this task.
Copying of Data in SPSS to a Citrix copy of Open Office
Data can be copied directly from SPSS to a Remote copy of the Open Office Applications

Charts can be copied directly from SPSS to a Remote copy of the Open Office Applications
