Continuing Professional Development

Study

CPD is the systematic maintenance, improvement and broadening of knowledge, skills and understanding, for the execution of professional and vocational duties to enhance, in the context of lifelong learning, the individual’s contribution to his or her profession or work.

CPD aims to:

    - improve peoples’ current work practices
    - to prepare people for career development
    - to help organisations develop their employees as part of their strategic aim.

The School of Health Sciences is developing a Continuing Professional Development framework which addresses the needs of all professions represented in the School, as well as other relevant professional groups. The CPD course portfolio comprises a wide range of short courses and credit rated generic and profession specific modules at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The majority of these modules are delivered by open or distance learning methods, in order to address student and employer needs. Students have the option to study individual modules for which they will be awarded academic credit, and also have the opportunity to accumulate these credits and combine the modules within either an undergraduate or postgraduate framework to gain a named award.
