Entry Requirements
Academic Attainment or Professional Experience

Our guiding principle for admitting students onto our courses is that we must be satisfied that, in our opinion, the candidate has the right academic and/or industrially relevant experience to achieve academic success and to finish the course within the set time-frame. As a general benchmark requirement, candidates applying for admission to a postgraduate course should normally possess:

For Oil & Gas Engineering:

An honours U.K. degree in Engineering or related discipline at level 2.2 or above or degree equivalent. Priority will be given to applicants with a background in Chemical/Mechanical/Petroleum Engineering.

Degree equivalent examples:

•Nigeria: Honours degree 2nd class (upper division) from a Federal University

•India: Honours degree 2nd class (lower division)

For Drilling & Well Engineering, Petroleum Production Engineering, Subsea Engineering and Asset Integrity Management:

An honours degree or degree in Engineering or related discipline at level 2.2 or above or degree equivalent combined with relevant Oil & Gas industry experience. Some examples of relevant Oil & Gas industry experience:

•One year relevant well-site experience (Drilling & Well Engineering) •2 years experience in production operations and/or engineering (Petroleum Production Engineering), etc •One year industrial or marine experience (Subsea Engineering) •One year relevant asset management experience

Other degrees or industrially relevant experience that we can accept in place of the above stated general requirement might be, typically:

•an honours U.K. degree or degree equivalent in physical sciences or relevant related subjects (applied maths, physics, chemistry or geology), where maths and/or physics are substantial parts of the curriculum

•where recent graduates, without having the normally required Oil & Gas industry experience, can otherwise demonstrate their suitability to enter one of our specialised courses

•10 years or more relevant Oil & Gas industry experience in the absence of academic qualifications. Potential candidates will have to demonstrate the right level of knowledge in the subjects of maths and sciences.

For our overseas students we have a further English language requirement. For details of this, click on the link below.
