MSc in Petroleum Production Engineering
Overview of the Course
This is a practical, production focused course for those with a special interest in wells and related production facilities, whether they are on land, offshore or subsea
In this course you study eight taught modules, participate in a design exercise and complete a dissertation.

- Advanced Completion & Subsea Systems
- Economics & Asset Management
A postgraduate certificate, postgraduate diploma and masters of science can be achieved depending on the stage of the course you complete.
You also have flexibility in the mode by which you study. This course can be taken full-time or online.
Aims of the Course
The course aims to train the next generation of engineers and managers in the tools and techniques required to manage and operate fields and wells effectively after they are drilled.
On successful completion you will have developed the skills necessary to select equipment, optimize the design and performance of production facilities and manage field and well production operations.
Successful students will also be skilled in the management techniques for working in a multidisciplinary team on complex projects such as field developments, field enhancement projects and well rehabilitations.
The course has been developed in close collaboration with industry to enable students to develop a critical approach to Petroleum Production Engineering; gain a broad and sound understanding of the scientific, engineering and management aspects related to selected key areas of Petroleum Production Engineering; develop and utilise skills in integrating knowledge drawn from different subject areas; learn innovative thinking; develop initiative, creativity, inter-personal skills and a high level of independent critical judgment.
Career Opportunities
This innovative course has been designed to have relevance to engineers allowing them to more effectively exploit leading edge technologies whilst gaining a specialist masters degree.
Entry Requirements
Applicants should have an Honours degree in Engineering or related discipline at level 2.2 or above. However those with other qualifications, but with considerable appropriate industrial experience may be considered. Students whose first language is not English should hold IELTS 6.5 before commencing study. Applicants should have at least 2 years relevant post degree industrial experience in the oil or gas industry.
