MSc in Drilling & Well Engineering

Overview of the Course

This innovative course is designed to deliver tomorrows Drilling and Well Engineering experts and is relevant to senior and middle managers and engineers.

Our work with industry partners, utilising industry standard application software, solid theory and hands-on practical experience means the RGU Drilling and Well Engineering MSc is an industry recognised competency standard.

By focusing on the concept of effective well construction and examining the lifecycle of the well, the course develops high levels of professional competence in the key areas of Well Design, Drilling and Operations Management and will give you real practical and academic skills which will enhance your career options.

In this course you study eight taught modules and complete a dissertation.

The taught modules are as follows:

A postgraduate certificate, postgraduate diploma or Masters of Science can be achieved depending on the stage of the course you complete.

You also have flexibility in the mode by which you study. The course can be taken full-time or online.


Aims of the Course

This specialist course has evolved and is designed to develop a critical approach to the implementation of drilling and well engineering and to provide a broad and sound understanding of the scientific, engineering and management aspects related to selected areas of effective drilling and well engineering.
      
It aims to develop high levels of professional competence, to encourage innovative thinking, which can be applied to the discipline of drilling and well engineering. It will also develop initiative, creativity, inter-personal skills and a high level of independent critical judgement at a level appropriate to a MSc degree.

The course represents a significant advance in the delivery of specialised professional development. Its modular structure and flexible delivery are designed especially to meet the 'real world' needs of industry.

Entry Requirements

Applicants should have an Honours degree in Engineering or related discipline at level 2.2 or above. However those with other qualifications, but with considerable appropriate industrial experience may be considered. Students whose first language is not English should hold IELTS 6.5 before commencing study. Applicants should have at least 1 year relevant post degree industrial experience in the oil or gas industry.
