SP-2
Second International Conference on
Semiconductor Photochemistry
The Robert Gordon University,
Aberdeen (U.K.)
July 23rd-25th, 2007
Invitation
You are cordially invited to participate in the second International Conference on Semiconductor Photochemistry (SP-2), to be held in Aberdeen, Scotland, July 23-25, 2007. The conference is organised by Professor Peter Robertson (Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen) and Professor Andrew Mills (University of Strathclyde, Glasgow).
Scope of Conference
The aim of the conference is to cover recent developments in the area of semiconductor photochemistry. The conference will have the following three simple themes: fundamentals, solar hydrogen, photosystems, air and water purification systems. These topics will be discussed in keynote and invited lectures and in poster sessions. Typically lectures will be 20 minutes in duration with 5 minutes for questions. In general each research group will be allowed only one oral presentation and any others will be presented as posters.
The conference will be short (three days), focussed (few or no parallel sessions) and relatively inexpensive (ca. £150 registration fee for main participants; £75 for students) - the conference will be non-profit making. The low conference fee is to encourage more people to attend, especially research students with an interest in the field. There will be a free Civic Reception on the last night of the conference.
The following have accepted invitations to speak at the conference: M. Graetzel (Switzerland), K. Hashimoto (Japan), D.W. Bahnemann (Germany), A. Mills (UK), A. Nozik (USA), D. Ollis (USA), M. R. Hoffmann (USA), C. Minero (Italy), J. M. Hermann (France) P. Robertson (UK), J. Durrant (UK), J. Zhao (China), A. J. Byrne (Ireland), R. Howe (UK), L. R. Skubal (USA), P. Kamat (USA), P. Malato (Spain)
Language
The official language of the conference will be English.
Location
The International Conference on Semiconductor Photochemistry, SP-2, will be held mid-summer at The The Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen in the north-east of Scotland.
The conference (and registration) is to be held, i.e. in the Faculty of Health Building, Garthdee.
About Aberdeen
Home to a population of 212,125, Aberdeen is a cosmopolitan port in the North-east of Scotland. Built at the mouth of two major rivers, the Dee and Don, and covering an area of 184,47 square kilometers (71,22 square miles), the Granite City owes its distinctive appearance to the famous, locally quarried and widely exported, building material. Traditional industries such as fishing and farming still flourish in and around the city but Aberdeen’s buoyant modern economy - reflected in unemployment rates consistently under 2% - is fuelled by the oil industry, earning the city its eplinet as “Oil Capital of Europeâ€.
With bustling shopping malls, a wide variety of entertainment and leisure and cultural centre. First class road, rail, sea and air communications- London is only an hour’s flight away – ensures the city, though Northerly, is not isolated.
The city of Aberdeen has its own international airport that is located 20 minutes’ drive from the city centre and direct access is provided to several European destinations.
Civic Reception
On the final evening of the conference there will be an evening (7 pm) Civic Reception hosted by Aberdeen City Council. Dress will be informal and a finger buffet and refreshments will be provided.
Presentations and preparation of abstracts
All participants who wish to give an oral and/or poster presentation(s) must submit an abstract for each presentation. If a group wishes to make more than one presentation at the conference – please indicate the preferred one for oral presentation, since, in general, each research group will be allowed only one oral presentation – all others will be posters. Each Abstract should begin with: Title, author(s) (please underline the presenting author), contact details (address, and e-mail address). All abstracts must only be 1 A4 page in length. Abstracts can be sent electronically as a MS-Word document attachment to: SP-2@rgu.ac.uk. or mailed as a top copy to the conference secretariat (address below). No abstract will be accepted unless, or until, the underlined presenting author in the Abstract has registered. Deadline for Abstract submission and early registration: December 31st 2006.
Publication
Material presented in the lectures and poster sessions will be published in the International Journal of Photoenergy. The articles will be refereed in the usual manner. All manuscripts must be received by the Conference start date (23rd July, 2007).
