Masterplan
The University’s detailed plans for 34,000m2 of new buildings at Garthdee were submitted to Aberdeen City Council and planning approval was achieved for the development in 2010.
The University’s Masterplan has undergone significant change since the original was submitted for approval in 2006. The decision to revisit the Masterplan was taken following feedback from staff and students in 2008 and the acquisition of an additional 50 acres of land on the south side of the River Dee.
In addition, thoughts and ideas contributed by short-listed architects during the tender process led the University to re-evaluate some of its key requirements. As a result it was agreed that the University's architects, Building Design Partnership, should review the project.
Masterplan 2009 recommends the development of the east of the Garthdee in the area adjacent to the Faculty of Health and Social Care. The benefits include:
- reinforcing the existing primary arrival point/entrance to the Garthdee site
- providing a visual link with the river reinforcing the riverside setting
- enabling a future physical connection over the river to the south
- a compact academic facility with an end-to-end walking time of 2 minutes

In April 2011, Miller Construction were contracted to undertake the construction of the first phase of the new building on the Garthdee campus. The programme will see work commencing on site in April 2011 with a completion date in the Spring of 2013.
A monthly news letter (available below) will be produced to provide information on what will be happening on site and other developments in the project.
